Mcafee Brings In Voice-Activated Network Security By Joining Hands With Alexa
McAfee.com/Activate - McAfee, the leading online security services and solutions provider has come up with an innovative idea of letting its customers monitor their Wi-Fi router. So, if you have a strong instinct that your neighbors are misusing your Wi-Fi or your kid is staying up till late night to watch his/her favorite videos then the McAfee has a solution for you. With the right network router, you can command the Amazon’s Alexa to find out and block all the unfamiliar devices from your network. All this can happen just by giving the voice commands.
At Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain, the company has revealed the development of a new Alexa Skill, which will help its customers to know about the security of your Wi-Fi router without accessing any other application. Below are some examples to get an idea of how the McAfee voice-activated network security will work:
- Alexa, ask McAfee to check how many devices are accessing the network right now
- Alexa, ask McAfee to block or unblock “Device Name”
- Alexa, ask McAfee to stop the internet access for “Kid’s Device Name”
- Alexa, ask McAfee to check the network for any virus
So, by using Alexa, you can easily set a time limit as well as data limit on your kid’s iPad. Apart from this, you can also initiate timely scanning for the botnet attacks or vulnerable devices. All the routers connected to the McAfee Secure Home platform will automatically be covered under the Alexa functionality. The MSE platform was revealed at CES 2018 to let its users enjoy extended desktop security scans across all the devices connected to the same network. This also includes smart home devices.
The Alexa voice commands are not available for the customers yet. But once they will, you can get them by visiting the Amazon’s Skills page. From that page, you can download the same to your Amazon smart speaker of choice.
However, if you don’t have an Amazon speaker or Amazon echo, need not worry. The Chief Consumer Security Evangelist at McAfee, Gary Davis has told to the PCMag that if the Alexa goes well with the McAfee products, the company will plan to provide support for other voice assistants such as Apple’s Siri or Google Assistant.
Making security accessible to everyone
As per the recent reports with Amazon’s smart lock fiasco, smart home devices are easily susceptible to hacking, if proper measures are not taken. One of the major steps we have paid attention to is securing your Wi-Fi network from those will the ill-intentions. This has made possible by using a monitoring application to find out the intruding devices.
But most of the users find it quite difficult to regularly log in to the application and then check all the devices connected to the network. Even a minor ignorance can leave our networks exposed to the hackers. To find a better solution of it, VP John Giamatteo, McAfee’s executive said in a PR that the company’s security solutions must go well for the customers in a manner they already live their lives, which is voice-commands. With the launch of this new technique, we can be lazy and still be secure. Thanks to McAfee!
